Elizabeth Marie Tallchief (January 24, 1925 – April 11, 2013) was an American ballerina. She was considered America's first major prima ballerina. She was the first Native American (Osage Nation) to hold the rank, and is said to have revolutionized ballet

Maria Tallchief, leading ballerina with the New York City ballet, has returned amid wild acclaim after a two-year time-out during which she became the mother of a girl.
The daughter, Elise, how 11 months old, accompanied her mother, along with a French maid.
Miss Tallchief married Chicago construction executive Henry D. Paschen Jr. four years ago. The ballerina said young Elise will not begin dancing lessons until she is 7.
Miss Tallchief's Scotch- Irish mother started her on piano lessons at 3 and dancing at 5 on the Oklahoma Indian reservation where they lived. Her father is an Osage Indian.
Elizabeth Marie, now Maria, gave piano concerts in Los Angeles before she was 12, but switched to dancing in her teens.
Miss Tallchief has been prime ballerina with the New York company since 1948 and has been hailed in America and throughout the world where she has toured.
