'Tain't so that most opera stars are sissies. Elaine Malbin, the petite soprano, works out in a gym almost daily. She can do 25 push-ups without a pause. Most sopranos of previous enerations couldn't do five push-ups, even with the help of a baritone and two tenors.

LEATHERNECK ON LEATHER STOMACH-The marines have landed-right on the tummy of Elaine Malbin. At attention on her abdomen is 1/Sgt. James R. Pippin, a 200-pounder.
Elaine was crowned Queen of the 2nd Marine Division at the unit's seventh annual reunion in New York. Her strong stomach was developed by singing exercises -Miss Malbin is also an opera star.

Creation Date 1936 Description A black and white photograph of Maine guide Charley Miller and fitness advocate Joseph Pilates having a meal at their outdoor set-up in the snow. Autographed, "To Charley Miller, from New York to Maine, Best of luck, Joseph H. Pilates, Feb. 26 / 1936." A handwritten note on the back reads, "at sportsmen show NY 1936."
